Davuilevu Theological College (DTC), the premier theological institution of the Methodist Church in Fiji, on 27 March 2026 marked a historic milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Otago, New Zealand. This landmark partnership signals a new era of collaboration, academic advancement, and shared vision in theological education across the Pacific.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by key leaders, including the President of the Methodist Church in Fiji, Dr. Semisi Turagavou, the Principal of Davuilevu Theological College, Mr. Savenaca Vuetanavanua, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Otago, Hon. Grant Robertson, alongside senior delegates from both institutions.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Principal described the occasion as a defining moment in the college's history. "Today's event will find its rightful place in the archives and history of this institution. The signing of this MOU comes at a crucial time as the College undergoes significant academic transformation from early licentiate programs to diploma, degree, and now master's level studies, with aspirations toward doctoral offerings."
The President welcomed the agreement as a significant step forward in strengthening theological education and service delivery. "This MOU ignites a new chapter of partnership, collaboration, and shared vision. It aligns with our commitment to deepen spiritual and academic excellence as we respond to the evolving needs of our communities."

The MOU is expected to facilitate academic cooperation, including staff and student exchanges, joint research initiatives, and the development of advanced theological programs, grounded in Pacific values such as talanoa — a relational and inclusive approach to knowledge-sharing.
