The Methodist Church family marked two significant occasions in the life of the Church — Fathering Sunday and the celebration of "I Sevu", the offering of First Fruits.
Fathering Sunday is a time when the Church acknowledges and gives thanks for fathers and men who faithfully carry the responsibility of leadership, care, and spiritual guidance within their families and communities. The Scriptures remind fathers of their important role in nurturing their children in faith and righteousness, as encouraged in Ephesians 6:4.
Alongside this, the Church also celebrated Sevu, the offering of the First Fruits. This practice has its roots in the teachings of the Bible. In the Old Testament, God instructed His people to bring the first and best portion of their harvest to Him as an offering of thanksgiving. Exodus 23:19 declares, "Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the Lord your God."
For the Church today, the celebration of Sevu continues to hold deep spiritual meaning. It reflects a spirit of gratitude and dependence on God's provision. Whether through crops, income, or other blessings, the offering of the first portion symbolizes giving back to God what rightfully belongs to Him.
